The Charles Hotel has a wonderfully fun contest each year for Valentine’s Day. This year they are asking you to share your best engagement story for a chance to win a Sweetheart Escape Package. Submissions for the “Best Engagement” story should be sent to:firstname.lastname@example.org by noon February 6, 2012. Winner will be chosen and notified by February 8th.
The Sweetheart Escape Package is an overnight in a deluxe room, a bottle of sparkling wine with a Valentine’s Day themed dessert delivered to your room. If you haven’t had a chance to indulge in Chef Davis’ treats yet you won’t know how good this special delivery is! In the morning you will be served breakfast in bed or if that’s not your style breakfast for two can be enjoyed at Henrietta’s Table (during regular breakfast hours). You can fall into one another’s arms with passes for two at skating rink and just in case you might need it, a late check out until 2 p.m. is pre-arranged for you to linger in love.
Now for those of you, like me, who don’t quite have a contest worthy engagement story (it’s the thought that counts) I thought I might still take a little stroll down memory lane if you’ll indulge me.
I knew Dan was going to propose at some point because he was going to use my mother’s ring. Unlike many others who have their mother’s rings I am lucky enough to also have my mother around, but she doesn’t like to wear jewelry (such a shame given that my grandfather was a jeweler). So I knew he had the ring. Eventually, I made reservations for a nice romantic getaway at an inn in Vermont. I’m not sure where we went now, but knowing me I have a postcard or some stationery somewhere stashed away from there. I just wanted to hit the road, but Dan was busy in the bathroom for much longer than anyone needs to be.
Eventually we hit the road and were headed to wintry snow covered Vermont. Over dinner that evening (okay so I don’t exactly remember when, but I think it was at or just after dinner) he handed me a tape. It was the grateful dead Friend of the Devil cassette and somehow inside he managed to place the ring. We enjoyed a weekend of sitting by the fire, cross country skiing and the first steps of our long journey together.
The Sweetheart Escape package starts at $319 per night based on double occupancy, not including taxes and gratuity. The package is available Friday, February 10 – Tuesday, February 14, 2012.
