Weekly Bump: Restaurants, Reading & Changing the World

This is rather short notice, but there’s nothing like spontaneity.  If you already had a babysitter lined up then you’re all set and if not, you can contribute in other ways. Head out to The Elephant walk on Wednesday, November 12th from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. for their Benefit Reception for Room to Read.  The cost is only $25 in advance or $30 at the door.

The Elephant Walk, a French-Cambodian restaurant in Cambridge is hosting a talk and silent auction to raise funds for Boston’s chapter of Room to Read.  Their goal is to raise funds to build 10 libraries in Cambodia. Longteine de Montiero founding chef of Elephant Walk will be speaking.  She has had a fascinating life in Cambodia, France, and most recently in the US.  Chef Lopez, chef and owner of the Cambridge restaurant will also be speaking.  Stephanie Scott and Yashvinee Narechania from Room to Read headquarters in San Francisco will also be present.

Auction items include:  Tickets to a Red Sox/Yankees game (date TBD),Dinner gift certificates to Elephant Walk, Cooking classes at Elephant Walk, Accommodations for a weekend in Provincetown, Wine tasking with Stonehenge Winery, Tickets to the ICA and Children’s Museum, Photo sitting for a family portrait, Dinner for two at Grill 23, Accommodations for a weekend at Naswa Resort, Laconia, NH.

Room to read is an organization that builds libraries for children in Nepal, Vietnam, Cambodia, India, Laos, and most recently South Africa.  I might try to round up some friends to do a girls’ night out tomorrow at Elephant Walk.  Since we’re all moms of young children that might not be feasible.  In which case, I’ll contribute online, make our weekly pizza, and watch the season premiere of Top Chef:  New York.
