Newbury Street is a long row of chic little cafés and restaurants, perfectly assembled window displays, designer frocks, jewels, and shoes… and a fairy store? We all appreciate different things in life.
For some fantasy play is trying on Valentino dresses and imagining redecorating the entire house as you stroll through Pottery Barn. For others there is the fantasy of living in a different time and place, where disputes were sorted out in the jousting ring, shooting arrows was a pastime not shooting the breeze via text, and no one worried about their cholesterol or liver.
A recent stroll on Newbury street, of all places, brought me right back to my first visit to King Richard’s Faire. (Win 4 tickets here.)
The grounds for King Richard’s Faire are wooded, and kind of magical. There is a caretaker who lives on the property year-round, when the kingdom is dormant but each September through October, the fairy garden awakens, the jousting grounds come alive with the pounding hoofs of horses and the grunts of knights at battle, and the fun begins.
King Richard’s Faire is on Route 58 in Carver, MA. King Richard and his court welcome you Saturdays and Sundays from 10:30 to 6 p.m. We went last year and the kids had a blast. We’re headed back again to revisit the fairy garden and see if our archery skill have improved at all. Last year we waited too long and the children were restless so we didn’t get a good joust in. This year that’s one of our priorities. The more the merrier, so I’m giving away four tickets to King Richard’s Faire good for September, 7, 8, 14, 15, 21, or 22, 2013.
