Put on a Pear of Socks Smoothie (Recipe)

There is a definite chill in the air today. It is the perfect weather for me to tie on my new sneakers from Planetshoes and follow the path that my #solesisters have been running on for several weeks now getting #fit4fall. For some reason I just can’t take that first physical step. We’ll get to that in a post soon. For now, I’m making changes in the kitchen because that works for me.

Today’s green smoothie is a bit of a fake. There are no greens but the green colour comes from a small green cantaloupe from my CSA. I was told the melons were not sweet so I figured I’d go with a little extra heat from spice to make it work. In fact, the melon did have a little sweetness so I did not need to add much honey.

Ingredients

  • one small melon -I used a green cantaloupe.
  • one pear
  • one 1/2 inch knob of ginger
  • 1-2 tsp of cinnamon
  • 1TBSP of honey
  • 20130917-094017.jpg
    optional

  • a pack of chia seeds
  • or

  • a spoonful of flax seeds
  • or

  • a spoonful or 2 of wheat germ
  • or

  • a handful of nuts

Scoop out the seeds then keep the spoon to continue scooping the flesh of the melon into your blender.

Slice the pear around the core. Then nibble the edges of the core before you toss it in the compost bucket.

Peel your ginger. If your blender is powerful enough to break it down well, feel free to toss the whole thing in unpeeled. As you can see, mine is not quite powerful enough so I peel.
