Home Sweet Home is going to get you out of your home next weekend. Not one more Saturday night at home folding laundry will do. Ditch the laundry and fold it together as a family Saturday or Sunday morning with some good tunes on Pandora, a post laundry brunch at home or out (check out Common Grounds’ breakfast for $5.99 on Saturdays or $9.99 on Sundays). Then you can head out as a couple to enjoy a little competition, desserts, wine tastings, music and dancing all in support of a charitable organization. This year Home Sweet Home supports Community Call.
On Saturday, September 28th, pick out your dressy grown-up clothes from the laundry basket and kick the hamper aside as you head out to the Cambridge Hyatt Regency. You will be a part of a dessert competition judging 20 top pastry chefs. There will be music to dance to by The Love Dogs and VJ Rick Hodkins, a wine tasting with tips from Sommelier Augusto Gabriel, performance art which includes a magic mentalist and an art exhibit.
You will get a taste of sweet pastries and desserts from Area Four, Amelia’s Trattoria, Bambara, Bergamot, Cambridge School of Culinary Arts, Cinquecento, Crema Café, The Fireplace, Haley House Bakery & Café, Harvest, Henrietta’s Table, Kickass Cupcakes, Konditor Meister, Lulu Sweet Shop, Sofra Bakery & Café, Tatte Bakery & Café, Temple Bar, Union Bar and Grille, and Zephyr’s on the Charles.
The beneficiary, Community Call is an organization whose mission is to develop social entrepreneurship through an event-planning enrichment program. The Greater Boston population of at-risk and financially disadvantaged high school students are asked to collaborate to identify a social need, develop a plan, and produce an event that benefits its broader community. Students learn organizational, business, and entrepreneurial skills.
I don’t think I need to twist your arm here. Some of the top pastry chefs in town, a great cause, wine tasting, dancing, and here is where you can get a ticket. As a blogger, I have been invited as a guest to Home Sweet Home. As a person who values the importance of such organizations and charitable giving I also bought a ticket because I want to support the efforts of all those involved.
