June 3rd is a special day at Fenway. The Green Monster is dressing up in all the colours of the rainbow and there will be a little extra blue on the field too. It’s always a tough game for me to watch when my childhood team, the Toronto Blue Jays, plays my home team, the Red Sox.
Did you know that Major League Ball (MLB) had a Vice-President of Social Responsibility & Inclusion? They do and it is Billy Bean who played in the Major Leagues from 1987-1995. Bean broke into the big leagues with the Detroit Tigers, and tied a major league record with four hits in his first game. He went on to play for the Los Angeles Dodgers and the San Diego Padres. Bean was a two-time “All-America” outfielder at Loyola Marymount University before graduating with a degree in Business Administration. He is also an advisory board member of the Sports Equality Foundation, aimed at providing support to LGBT athletes, coaches, and team leaders in every sport.
This year the VIP package includes tickets access to a meet and greet with Billy Bean a Food and Beverage buffet in the Champions Club, and a copy of Billy Bean’s book Going the Other Way: An Intimate Memoir of Life In and Out of Major League Baseball. Space is limited for this event.
